Monzo’s ATM withdrawal limits vary by account tier. The free account gives you one free UK withdrawal per month, then charges 3%. Monzo Plus and Premium offer unlimited free UK ATM use — a significant upgrade if you regularly need cash.
This page is part of the Monzo Bank UK complete guide, which covers all Monzo features, fees, limits, and account tiers.

How the UK ATM Policy Works (Free Account)
The free Monzo account gives you one free UK ATM withdrawal per month. There is no minimum or maximum amount for this free withdrawal — you could withdraw £10 or £300 and it counts as your one free use.
After your free monthly withdrawal, each subsequent UK ATM withdrawal incurs a 3% fee. This is applied by Monzo and charged to your account immediately.
Worked example: You withdraw £20 on 5th May (free). On 20th May you withdraw £50 — 3% fee = £1.50. On 28th May you withdraw £100 — 3% fee = £3.00. Total ATM fees for May on a free account: £4.50.
If you regularly need cash more than once a month, Monzo Plus at £5/month pays for itself with just two extra ATM visits. See Monzo Plus vs Premium — Is It Worth It? for a full breakdown of whether upgrading makes financial sense.
The Maximum Single Withdrawal
Monzo’s per-transaction ATM limit is £300. This is the most you can withdraw in a single ATM visit. If you need more than £300, you need to use the ATM twice (subject to the ATM’s own per-transaction limits) or visit on different days.
Daily ATM Limit
The standard daily ATM cash limit for Monzo is £600. This resets each calendar day.
To temporarily increase your limit:
- Open the Monzo app
- Go to Account → Manage (or the card settings area)
- Select ATM withdrawals or Limits
- Increase the daily limit for a 24-hour window
Foreign ATM Withdrawals
Monzo’s foreign ATM allowance varies significantly by plan:
| Plan | Free monthly allowance abroad | Fee after allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Free | £200/month | 3% |
| Plus | £400/month | 3% |
| Premium | £600/month | 3% |
The allowance resets on the first of each calendar month. Monzo applies this across all countries — there is no split between EEA and non-EEA regions.
Worked example (free account): You’re in Greece for two weeks in July. You withdraw £120 and then £100 — total £220. The first £200 is free; you pay 3% on the remaining £20 = £0.60 fee.
Worked example (Premium): You’re travelling for a month across Southeast Asia. You withdraw £500 total from ATMs. This falls within the £600/month Premium allowance — no fee.

Monzo vs Competitors on ATM Limits
| Bank | UK free ATM withdrawals | Foreign free allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Monzo (free) | 1/month then 3% | £200/month |
| Monzo Plus | Unlimited | £400/month |
| Monzo Premium | Unlimited | £600/month |
| Chase UK | Unlimited free | £500/month (then 1.5%) |
| Starling | Unlimited free | Unlimited (fair use) |
| Barclays | Unlimited free | 2.99% from £1 |
For free accounts, Chase UK and Starling offer unlimited free UK ATM withdrawals — a clear advantage over standard Monzo. If ATM access is important and you don’t want to pay for Monzo Plus, Chase or Starling may be a better fit.
Tips for Managing Monzo ATM Use
- Use your one free withdrawal wisely — withdraw a larger amount once rather than small amounts multiple times
- Monzo Plus breaks even quickly — if you make 3+ ATM withdrawals per month, the £5 fee saves money versus the 3% charges
- Abroad: plan around the monthly reset — if your trip crosses two months, you get a fresh allowance from the 1st
- Use Monzo Pots for cash budgeting — move your ATM budget into a Pot and withdraw from there to track spending
