Monzo Bank UK — Complete Guide 2026

Monzo Transfer Limit 2026 — How Much Can You Send?

Monzo's default Faster Payments limit is £10,000 per transaction. Here's how Monzo sending limits work, how to raise them, and what to do for large payments.

Monzo’s default Faster Payments limit is £10,000 per transaction. A daily sending limit also applies and varies by account age and history. For most day-to-day transfers — rent, bills, moving money to savings — Monzo’s limits are more than adequate. For a full overview of the Monzo account, see the Monzo hub.

How Faster Payments Works with Monzo

Monzo uses the Faster Payments network for all UK transfers. Payments:

  • Arrive within seconds in most cases
  • Are available 24/7 including bank holidays
  • Have a UK scheme maximum of £1 million — Monzo’s limit is lower at £10,000 by default

The £10,000 limit handles the vast majority of everyday transfers comfortably — paying rent, splitting bills, topping up savings, or making a car purchase deposit.

Sending Large Amounts

Monzo’s £10,000 default limit is lower than Starling (£250,000) and most high-street banks. If you need to send more:

Situation Solution
Up to £10,000 Standard Monzo transfer
£10,000–£25,000 Contact Monzo via in-app chat to request a temporary limit increase
Above £25,000 Split across multiple days, or use a high-street bank with CHAPS
Property completion or solicitor payment Use a high-street bank or solicitor’s account — Monzo does not support CHAPS

To request a limit increase, open the Monzo app, go to Help, and start a chat explaining the reason and amount. Monzo may increase limits on a case-by-case basis for verified customers.

Daily Sending Limit

Monzo also applies a daily sending limit — the total you can send in a 24-hour period across all transactions. This is displayed in the app when you initiate a payment.

New Monzo accounts typically have lower limits. These increase as:

  • Your account passes minimum age thresholds
  • You demonstrate regular salary-in and normal usage patterns
  • You verify additional identity documents if prompted

Standing Orders and Scheduled Payments

Monzo supports both standing orders and scheduled future payments:

Feature What it does
Standing order Regular automatic payment on a fixed date (e.g. rent on the 1st of each month)
Scheduled payment One-off future-dated transfer
Salary Sorter Automatically splits incoming salary into Pots and bills on payday

Salary Sorter is a Monzo-specific feature — it moves money to Pots and pays bills automatically when your salary arrives, useful for automating budgeting without manual transfers.

Receiving Money into Monzo

There is no limit on incoming payments. You can receive any amount via Faster Payments, BACS, or CHAPS into your Monzo account.

To receive a payment, share your sort code (04-00-04) and 8-digit account number from the app. Full details: Monzo Sort Code and Account Number.

How Monzo Compares on Transfer Limits

Bank Faster Payments max CHAPS available
Monzo £10,000 (default) No
Chase UK £25,000 No
Starling £250,000 No
Barclays Up to £250,000 Yes
HSBC Up to £100,000 Yes

Monzo’s default limit is the lowest of the major UK app banks. For customers who regularly move large sums, Starling or a high-street account is more practical. For everyday use, £10,000 covers the vast majority of transactions.

International Transfers

Monzo does not support outgoing international transfers. To send money abroad you need a separate service:

Service Best for
Wise Transparent mid-market rates; best for one-off transfers
Revolut Convenient if you already hold multiple currencies in the app

See Wise vs Revolut for a direct comparison. You can receive international transfers into Monzo using your UK IBAN, found in the app under Account details.
