Revolut UK — Complete Guide 2026

Everything you need to know about Revolut UK: FSCS protection, account tiers, ATM limits, transfer limits, fees, sort code, and how it compares to Monzo and Starling.

Revolut is one of the most downloaded financial apps in the UK and Europe. It received its UK banking licence in July 2024, making deposits FSCS-protected for the first time. In 2026 it has over 10 million UK users and offers a broader range of features than any other UK app bank — from currency exchange to crypto to travel insurance.

This page covers the key facts, limits, and questions. Use the links below for detail on each topic.

Revolut’s Strongest Features

Currency exchange at the interbank rate. On weekdays, Revolut converts currency at the real mid-market rate with no margin — the rate you see on Google. Banks and most competitors add a markup of 0.5–3%. For regular travellers or anyone making international transfers, this saves meaningful money.

International transfers. Revolut supports sending money to 160+ countries. The free plan includes 5 local transfers/month free; SWIFT transfers are charged. Wise is still often cheaper for large SWIFT transfers, but Revolut is significantly cheaper than UK banks.

Crypto and commodities trading. Available in-app without a separate brokerage account. Standard plan has limited crypto access; Premium and above get full access.

Disposable virtual cards. Generate a new card number for online purchases — the number is single-use, reducing fraud risk. Available on Plus and above.

Revolut’s Limitations

Customer service reputation. Revolut’s support is in-app chat only on Standard and Plus plans. Phone support is only available on Premium and above. Revolut has historically received poor customer service reviews — account freezes with limited explanation, slow fraud resolution. This has improved since the banking licence, but it remains a concern vs Starling (24/7 phone) or even Monzo.

Weekend FX surcharge. Currency exchange at weekends incurs a 0.5% fee on all plans. This catches travellers who exchange money on Saturday or Sunday.

No cash deposits. Revolut does not support cash deposits in the UK. If you receive cash, you need a different account.

Complexity. Five tiers, dozens of features, different limits per plan — Revolut rewards users who understand it, but can confuse those who don’t.
