PocketWise (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates pocketwise.co.uk as a free UK personal finance resource. To fund the costs of research, writing, and hosting, PocketWise earns revenue through advertising and affiliate partnerships. This page explains exactly how that works and how it affects — and does not affect — our content.
How PocketWise Makes Money
Display Advertising
PocketWise displays advertisements on our pages through Google AdSense and advertising management services including Mediavine. These ads are served automatically based on page content and, where you have consented, your browsing behaviour.
We earn revenue when you view or interact with these ads. The amount of advertising revenue we earn has no influence on which topics we cover, what conclusions our guides reach, or whether we recommend any particular product or service.
Affiliate Links
Some articles on PocketWise contain affiliate links — links to financial products, comparison services, or tools operated by third parties. If you click one of these links and go on to sign up for a product or make a purchase, we may receive a commission from the third party at no extra cost to you.
Where affiliate links appear in an article, we note this clearly with a disclosure statement near the top of that article. You will typically see wording such as: “This article contains affiliate links. If you click through and buy, we may earn a commission at no cost to you.”
Current affiliate relationships include (but are not limited to):
- Comparison services for savings accounts, mortgages, and insurance
- Financial tools and calculator services
- Financial education resources
This list may change as we add or end affiliate relationships. We update this page when significant new relationships begin.
How This Affects Our Content
What It Does Not Change
Our editorial independence is the foundation of what PocketWise is. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no influence over:
- What topics we cover — our content calendar is driven by reader need and organic search demand, not advertiser preference
- What we write — no sponsor, affiliate partner, or advertiser can request favourable coverage or review our content before publication
- Our conclusions and recommendations — if a product is poor value for UK consumers, we say so regardless of whether the provider is an affiliate partner or advertiser
- Our sources — all factual claims are sourced from primary authorities (HMRC, GOV.UK, ONS, FCA, DWP) and verified independently
What It Does Affect
We are human beings running a business. We acknowledge the following:
- Topic selection — we are more likely to create content about topics with genuine reader demand, which often overlaps with topics that attract advertising revenue. We consider this alignment a feature, not a conflict: reader demand and usefulness point in the same direction.
- Tool and service mentions — when we mention comparison sites or tools in an article, we may link to an affiliate version of that link. We only recommend services we believe to be genuinely useful for UK readers.
Sponsored Content Policy
PocketWise does not publish sponsored posts, paid-for reviews, or advertorials. We do not accept payment from product providers in exchange for favourable coverage.
If this changes in the future, any sponsored content will be clearly and prominently labelled as “Sponsored” or “Paid partnership” at the top of the relevant page, in compliance with ASA guidelines and FCA rules on financial promotions.
Comparison Tools and Price Data
Some PocketWise tools show comparison tables of savings rates, mortgage rates, or other financial product data. Where this data is sourced from an affiliate-connected comparison service, we disclose this. Our primary goal is accuracy and completeness — we aim to show you the market, not just the products that pay us.
Our Editorial Standards
For full details of how we research, write, fact-check, and maintain our content, see our Editorial Policy.
FCA Regulatory Status
PocketWise is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). We do not provide regulated financial advice. The information on this site is for educational and informational purposes only.
If you need personal financial advice, please consult an FCA-regulated financial adviser. You can find one through Unbiased or get free guidance from MoneyHelper.
